Language overview
German is listed in the translation catalog under the language identifier de. Selecting this entry sets the source or target language; it does not specify every regional variety or specialist vocabulary.
Writing system
The default writing system associated with this catalog entry is Latin. Preserve accents, punctuation and personal names. This default script information is derived from Unicode locale data and is not an exhaustive list of scripts used by speakers.
Common usage
Use the German translator to understand correspondence, study material, travel information and short workplace drafts. For a specialist text, supply a complete sentence rather than an isolated term, and retain any context that identifies the subject.
Review German address as a whole sentence
When English “you” becomes German, the intended relationship matters. Compare “Können Sie mir helfen?” with “Kannst du mir helfen?” Both ask for help, but they address the reader differently and use different verb forms. A blanket replacement of one pronoun cannot reliably change the register of an entire message. Check the greeting, requests and closing together.
For a work email, use established correspondence as a reference rather than assuming that every organization follows the same convention. Retain German characters in names and product references, and compare long compound terms with a relevant glossary. If a term remains uncertain, keep the original beside your draft for a reviewer. StarTranslate has no dedicated switch that guarantees formal German output.

Translation tips
Review noun capitalization, compound words, and formal Sie versus informal du.
Check negation and the subject of each sentence. Compare quantities, currencies and dates with the original. A fluent reader should review important text for meaning and tone before it is published.
